Zoomarine Collaborates in a Big Step in The World of Regenerative Medicine

ZOOMARINE COLLABORATES IN A BIG STEP IN THE WORLD OF REGENERATIVE MEDICINE

Our Zoomarine amusement park, located in Rome, Italy, in conjunction with the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Lazio and Tuscany, have carried out an important research in the field of regenerative medicine, which has resulted in significant advances in the treatment of diseases in dolphins.

The recent research was made within the framework of the project “Stem Cells: New tools in clinical applications” of the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Lazio and Tuscany, and was developed thanks to the analysis of the umbilical cord of Maya, the Dolphin, who was born at Zoomarine in October 2019.

We are excited to announce that the research yielded potential multiple uses, including the replicative capacity of mesenchymal stem cells and the application of these cells to the treatment of viruses that affect marine mammals.

Zoomarine has always worked towards animal welfare, hence we requested an analysis of the umbilical cord of our last baby. We are pleased to have contributed to the research, which will bring well-being to many animal species.
