Cancun, Quintana Roo, September 22, 2022 – Dolphin Discovery, a recognized Marine Mammal Habitat brand and proudly part of The Dolphin Company, successfully concluded the inclusive lecture series held at the Ka’ Yok’ Planetarium in Cancun as part of the activities to commemorate International Manatee Day.
After the press conference held on September 7th, the company organized several educational activities, including a traveling exhibition at the SAYAB Planetarium and several schools in Playa del Carmen and Cancun, live chats, and a lecture on their social media. Yesterday, they welcomed more than 200 children, teenagers, and adults in a series of lectures on topics that inspired those present to contribute to the preservation of this endangered species.
This was an inclusive event in which about 50% of the attendees had a visual, motor, and/or hearing disability. The more than 200 attendees were able to enjoy the content of the lectures and the didactic materials, which included educational material in Braille, a sign language interpreter, and sensory material that allowed visitors to feel textures that allowed them to imagine how the different parts of a Manatee felt.
Children from elementary and middle schools were also able to enjoy talks and educational materials through puzzles, games, and videos. A manatee skeleton was also on display for attendees to learn more about these beautiful animals.
“It was a very rewarding event for us. Environmental education should be free access for all people. It was very exciting to observe the surprise of the children with disabilities when they discovered information, textures, and curious facts about such a beautiful species as the Manatee. We really want everyone to get to know them and contribute to their preservation since this is an endemic species that is endangered and needs the help of all of us”, said Rosy Cerrillos, Corporate Manager of Marine Mammal Specialists.
The Dolphin Company has developed several actions aimed at truly including people with diverse disabilities. To this end, it has translated its material into Braille, created activities that enhance the senses, received training to learn sign language, and hosted several foundations and associations, among many other things.
