The Dolphin Company to dedicate september to celebrate international Manatee day

Cancún, Quintana Roo, September 12, 2024 — Dolphin Discovery, the marine mammal interaction brand under The Dolphin Company, a global park operator, is proud to announce that for the eighth consecutive year, it will dedicate September to celebrating International Manatee Day, held annually on September 7th. This initiative aims to raise awareness and educate the public about the importance of protecting manatees, a species currently endangered in Mexico.

This year’s campaign will span the entire month with both in-person and virtual activities designed to reach a broader audience. Events will take place across all locations where The Dolphin Company operates, including Mexico, the United States, Argentina, Italy, and the Caribbean islands. At Dolphin Discovery’s habitats, educational talks and workshops will be held, and visitors in Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, and Puerto Aventuras will have opportunities to learn more about these magnificent creatures. All activities will be free of charge and crafted to engage people of all ages.

The Manatee Month schedule in Quintana Roo is as follows:

  • September 2-8: Manatee Exhibition at Gran Plaza Cancún
  • September 7: Manatee Activities from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gran Plaza Cancún
  • September 7: Special Games, Presentations, and Tours at all Dolphin Discovery habitats
  • September 23: Manatee Rally from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Puerto Aventuras
  • September 26: Conferences from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Ka’Yok’ Planetarium, Cancún

“At The Dolphin Company, we are deeply committed to species conservation, and the celebration of International Manatee Day is one of our most significant and emblematic initiatives. Our goal is to encourage children and young people to care for species and inspire them towards conservation. Dolphin Discovery actively contributes to the preservation of the species through our Miracle breeding program, which has seen the birth of numerous manatees, aiding in their repopulation,” said Rosy Cerrillos, Corporate Manager of Marine Mammal Specialists at The Dolphin Company.

We anticipate approximately 300 attendees for the events. This year, The Dolphin Company is also proud to continue its commitment to inclusion. On September 26th at the Ka’Yok’ Planetarium in Cancún, more than 150 children, teenagers, and adults with diverse disabilities will participate in the conferences. They will have access to talks through sensory materials, braille, and sign language interpreters. Additionally, all staff and volunteers have been trained to ensure an inclusive and enriching experience for all visitors.

Through its educational and conservation efforts, The Dolphin Company reaffirms its commitment to the protection and well-being of the flora and fauna that surrounds us.
