The Dolphin Company, the largest park operator in Latin America and the #1 swimming with dolphins company in the world, announced that as a member of the World Travel and Tourism Council ( WTTC) will join the declaration of the Cancun Initiative: Women in Global Travel.
This initiative will decisively promote the empowerment of women in this industry, with a special impact on gender equality. The Cancun Initiative will allow women to cope faster from this crisis, which has hit especially vulnerable sectors of the population working in the travel and tourism sector.
According to 2019 data from the WTTC, women account for more than 50% of employment in the travel and tourism sector worldwide; however, it is not women who occupy strategic or high-level positions. It is proven that the female gender does three times more unpaid work than men. Therefore, the Government of Quintana Roo and the WTTC, launched a call to the leaders of the private, public and academic sectors to join forces and promote diversity, promote inclusion and achieve equality and equity for women in the force labor.
The Dolphin Company and all those private sector companies that sign the WTTC’s Women in Global Travel declaration, commit to the following:
- Establish an internal commitment to increase the representation of women between 30% and 50% in leadership positions and achieve at least 30% representation of women at the managerial and executive levels by 2030.
- In the short term, invest to increase and deepen programs that develop skills and opportunities among women by creating formal sponsorship and mentoring programs, and assigning a senior executive or Board member to be a sponsor of the gender diversity and inclusion, who will be responsible for progress.
- In the medium term, identify opportunities to reduce gender pay gaps, if they exist, and implement the gender diverse roster requirement for all open roles.
- Annually, share progress against commitment established in the action plan.
“For The Dolphin Company, joining this declaration represents a very important step in the history of our society, we recognize the importance of women in the world of work and their role in achieving our company’s objectives; we want to continue offering them equal opportunities and fair treatment that allows them to perform in a personal and professional way”, said Mr. Eduardo Albor, CEO of The Dolphin Company.
In this regard, Maribel Rodríguez, Senior Vice President of the WTTC, pointed out that “women in the travel and tourism sector make up more than 54% of the workforce, but representation at senior management level, where decisions are made, is very low. During the COVID-19 pandemic, women have taken a step forward to get us out of the quagmire, but once this happens we want to stay by the side, we want to be part of the recovery and decision-making. Talking about women and female empowerment is talking about growth, competitiveness, productivity, economic and social development”.
By signing the declaration, The Dolphin Company is committed to promoting greater economic, professional and social independence for the more than 37% of women who are part of its family around the world, and of course, to increase this percentage.
