Over 150 Sea Turtles return to the sea!

We are pleased to announce that on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Gulf World Marine Institute (GWMI) released more than 150 Sea Turtles back into the Gulf of Mexico. The event took place at Salinas Park Gulfside, in Cape San Blas, Port St. Joe, FL.

The Turtles were rescued and rehabilitated by our Veterinary team after the recent cold front that affected the area, causing hundreds of Turtles to suffer from cold stunning, putting them into a comatose state. Fortunately, these Turtles were healthy enough for a quick recovery. We thank everyone who helped with the rescue and transport of these animals, including various local organizations and agencies.

The event was open to the public. GWMI reminds everyone that if you encounter a stranded Turtle or any other Marine animal, please report it immediately by calling 1-888-404-3922 or texting #FWC from your mobile phone.
