OUR SPECIALISTS AND VETERINARIANS IN ARGENTINA RESCUED A STRANDED PORPOISE
Recently, our team of Specialists and Veterinarians from Aquarium Mar del Plata, Argentina, responded to a call to rescue a Thorny Porpoise that was stranded on the Torreon del Monje beach.
The small cetacean, of no more than one and a half meters long, continued to return to the coast despite the efforts to reintegrate it into the ocean, so our team decided to transfer it to Aquarium’s Marine Fauna Rehabilitation Center.
After conducting the first evaluations, the team of experts determined that the animal had anemia, a drop in its immune system, dehydration and an irregular respiratory pattern, thus providing it with a treatment of antibiotics and analgesics. Although it has shown improvement, its prognosis is still reserved.
After almost one month in our facilities, the cetacean regained perfect condition to go back to the sea. Our Rescue Team transferred him on November 11th into the ocean and successfully returned him to his habitat. They sincerely hope this little friend finds soon a group to navigate and live with.
In the last years, our Rescue Team around the world has contributed to the rescue, rehabilitation and reintegration of more than 250 animals of species such as turtles, dolphins, killer whales and sea lions, thereby reinforcing our commitment to the welfare of wildlife and the environment.
