Cancun, Quintana Roo on September 7th, 2023.- Dolphin Discovery, a brand of habitats for interaction with marine mammals of The Dolphin Company family, a park operator with global presence, announced the commemoration of International Manatee Day. For the seventh consecutive year, Dolphin Discovery will carry out various activities to raise awareness among children, adolescents and adults in the State about the importance of caring for the species.
The manatee is an endangered species that Dolphin Discovery has hosted in three of its habitats, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Aventuras and Cozumel, for several years with the firm objective of preserving the species. In these habitats, thanks to Dolphin Discovery‘s Miracle Reproduction Program, manatee calves have been born, which helps the conservation of the species. In addition, thanks to the fact that visitors have the opportunity to meet the manatee and interact with it, they gain a greater understanding of its care and that of its habitat, also inspiring others in their environment to do so.
The Manatee Day Commemoration will take place in the week of September 18th to 22nd and these will be the activities:
DATE | ACTIVITY | TIME | LOCATION |
September 18th to 20th | The manatees visit your school | 08:00 a.m. to 04:00 p.m. | Cancun and Playa del Carmen |
September 21st | Cycle of conferences and workshops | 09:00 a.m. to 01:00 p.m. | Ka’Yok’ Cancun’s Planetarium |
September 22nd | 4th Manatee Rally | 09:00 a.m. to 01:00 p.m. | Dolphin Discovery Puerto Aventuras |
“The manatee is a species little known to the majority of the population, however, it is a very noble species that acts as a regulator of the environment. Our objective with this event is that the children, adolescents and adults who attend our activities get to know, understand and take care of it, because the presence of human beings in their habitat is causing the species to become extinct and we cannot allow it, but to avoid this, we need everyone’s support,” said Rosy Cerrillos, Corporate Manager of Marine Mammal Specialists at The Dolphin Company.
The participation of more than 500 people is expected during the Manatee Day Commemoration, among which will be children and adolescents from various schools and institutions for people with visual and hearing disabilities, who will be able to enjoy the activities with the support of interpreters of the Mexican Sign Language and material in Braille.
