Gulf World Reinstates Killian

Gulf World Marine Institute (GWMI) will reinstate a subadult loggerhead turtle “Killian” next Wednesday, May 3 at 9:00 am. on the Gulf of Mexico from Inlet Beach Regional Beach Access at 438 W Park Place Avenue.

Killian is a turtle that was accidentally caught by a fisherman off the Navarre Beach fishing pier on May 27, 2022, the next day he was transferred to GWMI with a total of five serious hooking injuries and has since had a long road to recovery.

Fortunately, after almost a year, Killian is free of hooks thanks to multiple care and therapies for his speedy recovery, for which the veterinary staff, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission authorized his reinstatement.

GWMI thanks members of the stranding response team at the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Center, Gulfarium C.A.R.E. Center, and the volunteers who participated in the rescue of Killian.
