Gulf World Marine Institute reintegrates 40 turtles

We are happy to announce that Gulf World Marine Institute (GWMI) in Florida, United States, will reintegrate 40 stunned-cold green sea turtles into the Gulf of Mexico next Tuesday, January 30 at 11:00 a.m.

During cold snaps, sea turtles can become cold stunned due to low temperatures in shallow bays and estuaries below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. These 40 turtles found themselves in that situation and the GWMI team of Specialists and Veterinarians took them to rehabilitation at their facilities, but since they are in better health and the weather is better, it is time to reintegrate them.

We appreciate the support of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, FWC Law Enforcement, United States Fish and Wildlife Service, United States Geological Survey, Florida Coastal Conservancy, Northern Gulf Turtle & Coastal Research Group, Indian Pass Sea Turtle Patrol, St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, Rish State Park, Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City Beach Turtle Watch, GWMI staff and all volunteers that are working together to make this possible.
