Today Gulf World Marine Institute (GWMI) reinstated “Arrow” back in the Gulf of Mexico. Arrow was rescued from the Russell-Fields City pier on May 4 after he accidentally caught the hook of a fisherman, who luckily contacted authorities to help rescue and transport Arrow to GWMI for rehabilitation.
Arrow is a “repeat offender” and had previously been in rehab with GWMI in 2019. On both occasions, Arrow had accidentally been hooked on a local dock and spent time in rehab to recover from hook extractions. In this rescue and medical studies, Arrow was found to have 13 hook fragments in his body.
Fortunately it had the medical services of GWMI and has been authorized for reintegration by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, who invites them to be part of this event. We also thank the PCB lifeguards, Russell-Fields City Pier management, GWMI staff and volunteers for their dedication to the rehabilitation program.
