We are proud to announce that Gulf World Marine Institute (GWMI) released “Lucia,” a subadult loggerhead Sea Turtle, back into the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday, December 18, at 8:30 AM (Central Time) at Inlet Beach, Florida. “Lucia” was found on June 8, during World Oceans Day, with severe injuries, including the loss of her left front flipper and open wounds on other parts of her body.
Thanks to the medical treatment provided by the Veterinarians at GWMI, her health has improved significantly, and she has regained her energy and mobility. “Lucia” has been cleared for release by the Veterinary staff and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Gulf World invited the public to attend the event and urges individuals to report any stranded Sea Turtles, Dolphins, or Whales to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission emergency number.
