Aquarium Mar del Plata successfully reinserts “Rufi”, the two-haired sea lion

We are excited to share that Aquarium, The Dolphin Company’s marine Park in Argentina, successfully reintroduced a two-hair Sea Lion named “Rufi,” after he recovered from an injury to the corneas of his eyes.

“Rufi” of the species Arctocephalus australis, was rescued by the Marine Fauna Rehabilitation Center in Argentina. The young male specimen presented lesions in the corneas of both eyes. As it was a wild animal, the treatment with eye drops was difficult to apply, so the Veterinary team performed a surgical treatment and oral medication, which allowed the healing of both corneas. Once this treatment was completed, “Rufi” entered a moulting period, which prevented his reinsertion to the sea until this process was completed.

Finally, after several months at the Rehabilitation Center, on Friday, December 13, it was possible to reintroduce this beautiful specimen to the sea. Aquarium Mar del Plata invited the community to participate in this exciting experience.
