Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo, on August 5, 2019.- Dolphin Discovery Puerto Aventuras, was the headquarters for five days of veterinary specialists and doctors who through their theoretical-practical rescue workshop, managed to train six members of the stranding network of Holbox Island.
The MVZ María Renée Arreola, responsible for Dolphin Discovery Puerto Aventuras, led the training program providing topics such as: first aid for an animal in a situation of stranding, basic medicine and sampling and hydration. In this regard, she commented: “For Grupo Dolphin it is important to transmit the knowledge acquired with the cases of stranding that have been treated in species such as turtles, dolphins, sea lions and manatees, so that those who are faced with such a situation can provide the first aid to the specimen in question and thus ensure its speedy recovery.”
During the program the members of the Stranding Network, participated in the daily actions of medical care and attention that the park performs with its population of marine mammals such as sampling, in the same way, they were shared techniques to rescue and move a mammal in a stranded situation.
The company has a program called ‘Rescue Team’, which, since its creation in 2012, has rescued, rehabilitated and reintegrated several species of marine mammals, in Quintana Roo and Los Cabos. Thanks to this program and to the species that inhabit the Dolphin Group, this type of workshops can be given that will help more people to rescue animals that are in the unfortunate situation of a stranding, always taking care of the welfare of the species.
