Cancun, Quintana Roo, June 29, 2026 .- Dolphin Discovery, a leader in educational and interactive experiences with marine mammals, announced that its habitats located in Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, Puerto Aventuras, and Playa del Carmen have successfully passed the rigorous audits required to maintain the prestigious Humane Conservation certification, awarded by the international organization American Humane.
With more than a century of experience, American Humane is the world’s largest and most respected certifier of animal welfare practices. Its Humane Conservation program is the first global certification initiative dedicated exclusively to verifying the humane treatment of animals in zoos, aquariums, and conservation centers, currently helping protect nearly 1.1 million animals across more than 80 facilities in approximately 18 countries.
To renew this distinction, Dolphin Discovery’s habitats successfully completed a rigorous, multi-day independent audit. Unlike general assessments, this process focuses on the welfare of each individual animal, evaluating key areas such as excellence in veterinary care, the presence of positive social interactions, the design of safe and stimulating environments, the implementation of environmental enrichment programs, and the effectiveness of emergency response protocols.
“At Dolphin Discovery, animal welfare is our highest priority. Renewing our American Humane certification across our habitats is tangible proof of the unwavering commitment, scientific expertise, and dedication of our Specialists and Veterinarians. This certification allows us to provide complete transparency to our guests, demonstrating that our habitats in Quintana Roo operate under the highest ethical standards and serve as a global benchmark where the species under our care receive the dignity, respect, and compassionate treatment they deserve,” said Guillermo Sánchez, Director of Veterinary Medicine at The Dolphin Company.
The American Humane certification complements Dolphin Discovery’s strong portfolio of internationally recognized accreditations that validate its commitment to excellence. These world-class recognitions include the rigorous standards established by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums (AMMPA), and the International Marine Animal Trainers’ Association (IMATA). .
With this important achievement, Dolphin Discovery reaffirms its commitment to animal care by continuously advancing its welfare practices, supporting species conservation, and promoting environmental education.
