Cancun, Quintana Roo, May 14, 2026.– Dolphin Discovery, a leader in educational experiences with marine mammals and part of The Dolphin Company, announced that through its environmental education program Loving is Educating, it will celebrate Dolphin Day and Sea Lion Day on May 20 with a free event open to the public at Teatro de la Ciudad in Cancun, where students, families, and the community will be able to participate in activities focused on marine life conservation.
This 2026 marks the second consecutive year in which Dolphin Discovery has combined the celebration of Dolphin Day, observed on April 14, and Sea Lion Day, commemorated on May 30, into a single event. It is also the eighth year the company has commemorated these dates through educational and awareness activities aimed at schools and the general public, promoting marine mammal conservation and ecosystem protection.
As part of the activities leading up to the main event, educational programs were held from April 14 to 19 at Dolphin Discovery habitats located in St. Kitts, Cayman, Puerto Aventuras, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Vallarta, and Isla Mujeres, inspiring more than 500 people through school tours, drawing contests, and interactive educational modules focused on protecting marine life.
The main event will take place on Wednesday, May 20, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Teatro de la Ciudad and will feature conferences, workshops, interactive activities, and a special performance by the Quintana Roo Police Orchestra. During the event, specialists will share information about the importance of dolphins and sea lions within marine ecosystems, the challenges these species face due to pollution, and the actions society can take to contribute to their conservation.
One of the featured activities will be the PET Collection Contest “For the Oceans and Our Planet,” an initiative that over the course of three editions has collected more than 900 kilograms of PET thanks to the participation of environmentally committed schools. This year’s winning team will receive a full-day experience at Dolphin Discovery Isla Mujeres, where participants will enjoy a hands-on educational and marine conservation experience.
As part of The Dolphin Company’s commitment to inclusion, the event will include a Mexican Sign Language interpreter and educational materials in Braille, allowing children and young people with hearing and visual disabilities to fully enjoy the activities and experiences prepared for this celebration.
During last year’s edition, the event gathered more than 200 attendees and generated over 600 man-hours dedicated to environmental learning and awareness, with the participation of elementary schools and a civil association, creating a space for coexistence, empathy, and shared learning among students from different backgrounds.
“At Dolphin Discovery, we firmly believe that education is one of the most powerful tools to create positive environmental change. Bringing together Dolphin Day and Sea Lion Day in one event allows us to connect more children and young people with the knowledge and care of these species, promoting values such as empathy, responsibility, and respect for marine life. Our goal is to continue inspiring Ocean Ambassadors who understand the importance of protecting our ecosystems for future generations,” said , comentó Rosa Cerrillos, Corporate Manager of Animal Care Specialists at The Dolphin Company.
In parallel with this celebration, a free educational exhibition will also take place at La Gran Plaza from May 25 to 29, where children, families, and visitors will be able to participate in interactive activities and awareness games focused on the protection of dolphins, sea lions, and their ecosystems.
Through Loving is Caring, Dolphin Discovery continues creating free educational and awareness spaces that bring children, young people, and families closer to wildlife conservation and marine ecosystem care, reaffirming its commitment to building more conscious, engaged, and environmentally responsible generations.
