Cancún, Q. Roo, October 29, 2025 .- Dolphin Discovery, a brand of marine mammal interaction habitats owned by The Dolphin Company, celebrated the International Manatee Day for the ninth consecutive year with a series of educational and recreational activities that strengthened environmental awareness in Quintana Roo.
The celebrations began on September 7, the official date of International Manatee Day, with simultaneous activities at Dolphin Discovery habitats in Isla Mujeres, Puerto Aventuras, and Cozumel, where 575 people participated onsite in educational and recreational activities to commemorate this important occasion.
An educational exhibition was also held at La Gran Plaza in Cancún, which welcomed approximately 800 visitors over eight days and included an activation in which 178 children participated in awareness-raising games about this species. Additionally, educational visits were conducted at schools, benefiting 155 middle school students through talks and activities about the importance of manatees and their natural environment.
The series of activities concluded on October 28 at the Teatro de la Ciudad, where more than 250 attendees, including elementary and middle school students from public and private schools, teachers, families, and partners, participated in a day full of learning and entertainment. The event featured lectures, workshops, a theatrical performance, live music, and educational games focused on protecting the manatee and its habitat. Among the most memorable moments was the participation of the Quintana Roo Police Orchestra, which performed two songs dedicated to the children in attendance, creating an atmosphere of joy, music, and environmental awareness.
During the intermission, attendees enjoyed activities and games at educational and interactive booths organized by Dolphin Discovery’s “Amar es Educar” (Loving is Educating) program, alongside the Centinelas del Agua association and the company Aguakan, who contributed with educational materials, playful activities, and messages about water conservation and the protection of aquatic ecosystems. In addition, the Tlacuatitlán association delivered a lecture focused on marsupial conservation and their essential role in regional ecosystems. To ensure inclusion, the event featured a Mexican Sign Language interpreter and materials in Braille.
“Although not widely known, the manatee is a valuable and essential species for the health of aquatic ecosystems. At Dolphin Discovery, we have housed them for years in three of our habitats in Quintana Roo, with a strong commitment to their conservation. Through our educational experiences, visitors connect deeply with this mammal, understanding its environmental value and the urgent need to protect its habitat. With activities like these, we aim for new generations to learn to appreciate, protect, and become agents of change for its preservation,” said Rosy Cerrillos, Corporate Manager of Marine Mammal Specialists at The Dolphin Company.
The manatee, an endangered species, continues to be one of the central pillars of Dolphin Discovery’s conservation efforts in Quintana Roo. This year’s Manatee Day celebration engaged more than 1,900 participants across all activities, reaffirming the company’s commitment to environmental education, marine life protection, and the promotion of a culture of respect for the ecosystems of the Mexican Caribbean.
