We are pleased to announce that Gulf World Marine Institute (GWMI) released two juvenile Green Sea Turtles back into the ocean on Wednesday morning, March 12th, at Salinas Park, FL. These two Turtles, named Peony and ICU 4, were part of the approximately 1,200 Sea Turtles that were brought to GWMI during the cold weather event at the end of January. Cold snaps can cause sea turtles to become cold-stunned, but after receiving medical attention and proper rehabilitation, these two Turtles were given medical clearance and were ready for release!
We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the organizations and volunteers that contributed to rescuing, transporting, rehabilitating, and releasing the Turtles, including the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, FWC Law Enforcement, United States Fish and Wildlife Service, United States Geological Survey, and many others. Their efforts made this release possible, and we are deeply grateful for their continued support. If you encounter any stranded or deceased Dolphins, Whales, or Sea Turtles, please report them immediately to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at 1-888-404-3922 or #FWC on your cell phone.
