We are excited to share that Gulf World Marine Institute (GWMI) will be releasing “King George,” a subadult loggerhead Sea Turtle, back into the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday, November 27.
King George had been previously rescued in 2023 after interacting with fishing gear and was released following its rehabilitation. This will be the second time that King George has been under the care of GWMI’s rehabilitation Program. On August 9th of this year, King George was found at the M.B. Miller County Pier with a fishing hook protruding from its mouth and a line wrapped around its front flipper.
After receiving Veterinary care and antibiotic treatment to prevent infections, King George recovered and was cleared for release. GWMI thanks everyone involved in the rescue and release of Sea Turtles and invites the public to participate in the event.
