Marineland Celebrates 85 Years of History and Conservation

We are very pleased that our Marineland habitat located in St. Augustine, Florida and considered the first oceanarium in the world is celebrating 85 years of history, discoveries, learning and conservation of the diverse species that inhabit its care.

Marineland is considered one of the most important dolphin habitats in the United States and the world due to its historical value, contributions to the scientific community, and species conservation. It started in 1938 as a recording studio and became a habitat for interaction due to people’s interest in learning more about the relationship between humans and marine life.

In Marineland several films of international scope were recorded and with the passage of time important discoveries were made regarding the training of dolphins and echolocation. It has achieved various advances in the reproduction and conservation of dolphins, such as the birth of “Spray”, the first bottlenose dolphin born under human care, or the birth of Nellie, who reached 61 years of age thanks to the care provided by its specialists and veterinarians, being considered the longest-lived dolphin under human care.

Marineland is a place of history, an agent of change in the perspective of marine life and a reference for all generations who have had the opportunity to see marine mammals up close and learn about the care they need. We are very proud that he is part of our family that a habitat with as much history as he is part of our family.
