Gulf World Marine Institute Reintegrated Three Sea Turtles

Gulf World Marine Institute is pleased to announce that it has reintegrated three sea turtles, two Kemp’s ridleys and one green sea turtle stunned from this season’s cold in the Gulf of Mexico this Monday, February 6 at 11:00 am ET. east in St. George Island State Park in Franklin County.

During cold snaps, sea turtles can become dazed by the cold due to frigid temperatures in shallow bays and estuaries below 50 degrees. Sea turtles were just a few of the hundreds that were stranded along the Cape Cod coast, these species were flown by private plane from Quincy, MA to Panama City Beach, FL where they were immediately transported to GWMI for continued rehabilitation.

All sea turtles have been medically cleared by GWMI veterinary staff and Florida has cleared their release, the public was invited to attend this event. Remembering that all sea turtle reintegration events are subject to changes in case of bad weather conditions.

We thank all the organizations and volunteers that rescue, transport, rehabilitate and reintegrate turtles, as without them this would not be possible.
