Cold-Stunned Sea Turtle Release at Cape Palms Park

Gulf World Marine Institute is pleased to announce that most of the sea turtles stunned by the low temperatures that were taken to rehabilitation during the cold snap were reinstated in the Gulf of Mexico at Cape Palms Park, Port Saint Joe, Florida.

During cold snaps, sea turtles can go into a cold coma and over Christmas weekend, local bays dropped below the temperature threshold, causing more than 150 sea turtles to be stunned. Most of these turtles are healthy and therefore already cleared for reintegration once they have rewarmed to normal body temperature.

We thank all the organizations and volunteers that rescue, transport, rehabilitate and reintegrate turtles, as without them this would not be possible. We remind you that if you see a stranded dolphin, whale or sea turtle, immediately notify the Federal Commission of Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation at 1-888-404-3922 or #FWC on your cell phone.
