With the aim of involving other institutions and raising awareness in a larger population about the preservation of the manatee, yesterday we transferred two specimens of this species to the facilities of the Guadalajara Zoo, one of the largest and most important in Latin America.
The manatees that will now reside in the Guadalajara Zoo are an 8-year-old male named Lorenzillo who was born in our Dolphin Discovery habitat in Puerto Aventuras and a 6-year-old female named Claudia who was born in Isla Mujeres, both in the care stipulated by our Miracle breeding program.
The transfer of Lorenzillo and Claudia was carried out by air on stretchers made to measure for each specimen and they were accompanied at all times by the Specialists and Veterinarians of our family who ensured their well-being during the journey. Both specimens will be able to be admired by Jalisco families who will have access to educational programs designed to raise awareness about respect and the importance of conserving the species that once lived on our planet.
We consider that the Guadalajara Zoo is an optimal home for this species due to its large size and variety of animal population. In addition, it has an experienced team of veterinarians that we are sure will attend to Lorenzillo and Claudia.
