The deaf people integration project is underway. The Park of Rome offers free activities to promote, thanks to the relationship with dolphins, the communication of children and adults. The actress’s testimony of a charitable commitment that also sees the Lazio Region in the field
Rome, December 21, 2019. Tomorrow, with Manuela Arcuri, the social activities that Zoomarine and the National Organization for the Protection and Assistance to the Deaf Onlus begin with the aim of promoting the integration of children and deaf people.
Following the framework agreement signed at the headquarters of the Lazio Region, the Roma Park starts the project by offering, free of charge, to adults and children with hearing problems, informed by the deaf organization, guided tours of the Park and programs of interaction with animals, from dolphins.
It begins tomorrow (Sunday, December 22) with the first of the thematic sessions entitled “Communication between two worlds”. The actress and showgirl Manuela Arcuri will welcome the first 20 families to visit Zoomarine and will have the opportunity to interact with the dolphins and animals housed in the Park.
The project brings together Vittorio Corsini – President of the National Organization for the Protection and Assistance of the Regional Council of the Deaf Onlus of Lazio, Biagio Meschino – President of the National Organization for the Protection and Assistance to the Section of the Deaf Onlus Prov.le de Latina, Renato Lenzi – CEO Zoomarine Italia, and Lazio Regional Councilor Orlando Angelo Tripodi – President of the League in the Lazio Regional Council and Vice-Chairman of the VI Committee on Budget, Economic-Financial Planning, Regional Investments, Fiscal Federalism, State Property and Heritage. Manuela Arcuri’s commitment to solidarity is coordinated by Davide Tosi.
The LIS (Italian Sign Language), the universal communication code used by the deaf but also by trainers in their relationship with dolphins, will unite ENS children and dolphins in a special way.
Dolphins are indeed great communicators and have an extraordinary wealth of language and intelligence. These mammals have a very rich “vocabulary”: in addition to hissing, growling and screaming, they are capable of emitting a wide range of sounds perceptible to humans, as well as emitting ultrasound with frequencies too high for our limited hearing organs.
Deaf children can benefit from a special relationship with these mammals, being able to communicate in a particular way with dolphins thanks to sign language, increasing their perception, safety and inclusion. In fact, sign language is the preferred language for communicating with dolphins, just as it is for deaf people.
“Once again Zoomarine is attentive to social problems and makes our wealth of knowledge and dissemination of the potential of dolphins freely available to adults and children with special characteristics – explains dr. Renato Lenzi, CEO of Zoomarine and dolphin expert with a long international career -. The encounter of a deaf person with a dolphin stimulates a special interaction, built on unconventional communication dynamics.
Body language to exchange emotions and information is in fact the basis of the work we do in daily interaction with dolphins, just as deaf people do.
In this process, the human / dolphin interaction turns out to be an extraordinary moment of inclusion.
And even more effective would have been the contact with dolphins, an activity unfortunately not possible at the moment in Italy, but which shows great benefits all over the world, where it has been carried out for some time ”.
